At 1 p.m., a freight train heading westbound hit overhead wires on Division Street, causing multiple poles to be pulled down, a spokesman for the City of Elizabeth said.

Three cars were hit by falling wires and poles and two people suffered minor injuries and were transferred to a nearby hospital, authorities said. Another person refused medical attention, authorities said.

Several buildings lost power and PSE&G was on scene, authorities said. The intersection at Trumbull and Division was closed for several hours, authorities said.
